A hostage situation ended with the death of the perpetrator on Saturday (8) in São Sepé. According to the Military Police, an officer attempted to neutralize the attack using a Taser (electric shock weapon), but the equipment failed. The man was ultimately shot and killed.

According to initial reports, the Military Brigade received an emergency call regarding an attempted murder of a woman. At the scene, a 59-year-old man armed with a machete was attacking a 34-year-old woman.

The arrival of the Military Police did not deter the man, who continued his attack on the woman. At that moment, an officer attempted to subdue him with a Taser, which delivers an electric shock.

As the equipment malfunctioned, the officer resorted to using a firearm and shot the man. Officers then provided medical assistance to the suspect, but he did not survive his injuries and died at the scene.

The woman, who was the victim of the attempted murder, was rescued by the police and taken for medical treatment. No information has been provided about her condition.

In a statement, the Military Police said that the officer's actions were aimed at ensuring the safety of both the victim and the responding officers.

"The military police officer was forced to use the Taser to stop the aggression, but it was ineffective, making it necessary to use a firearm against the attacker to save the lives of both the officer and the woman seeking protection," read a statement released by the Social Communication Sector of the 1st Mounted Police Regiment (1º RPMon), headquartered in Santa Maria.
